Learn Chinese Brush Painting from a Master Traditional Chinese Brush Painter, Kwan Jung. Beginners will learn the basics you need for success: your setup, how to hold the brush, select paper, and mix paint. More advanced students will learn composition, brush stroke technique, perspective, mood and how to paint traditional Chinese forms.

Master artist Kwan Jung demonstrates six traditional Chinese subjects: prawn and the 10 basic brush strokes; swallow birds; bamboo in calm weather; bamboo in wind; hibiscus flowers; horses and cowboy. He shows you how he arranges his working area, selects materials, mixes ink, holds his brush and makes his strokes with multiple close up shots from various angles. His art is direct, lyrical and poetic and his serenity is reflected in his work. Watercolorists tell us that this workshop expands the versatility of their brush work.

#1 Jim Powers 2010-06-24 14:58 I just watched the Kwan Jung video of Chinese Brush Techniques. Please pass on to him how much I enjoyed the video and his presentation! I am a beginner watercolorist and am learning something new every day! Learning how not to paint so "tight" is one problem for me…I plan on practicing the Chinese Brush technique with conventional brushes and paper and see how it works…especial ly with flower and leaf drawings. Again, thank the artist and thank you for bringing the video. I am a stroke survivor…not a young 'un any more..so may not have the years and years to learn this technique to master status but I do know that I will be able to paint beautiful watecolor with his brush techniques! - Margarete S.
